We had been without a Chow Chow for about five years. Teddy, age 16 when he died, was, I thought, irreplaceable and my vet had said you'll never find another Chow with such a wonderful temperament.  Over time I began to consider whether that might not be true, and I began an Internet search for a new black male pup from a reputable and dedicated breeder.

When I located John Lafleur's Imperial Chows website, I could see immediately that John was just such a breeder with a strong commitment to quality and good temperament.  When I made phone contact with John I was impressed with his knowledge, enthusiasm and dedication and I felt reassured that he was gently interviewing ME for the position of responsible owner of one of his dogs!  That's just how it should be, especially with a breed so unique as the Chow Chow.

We spoke several times over the next ten days or so and John answered all my questions and put to rest any fears about transporting the puppy by air.

When little Chauncey (8 weeks old and 12 pounds) arrived at DC National Airport, he had been safely "packed" in a clean, spacious, cushioned crate with stainless steel water and food bowls secured, and all paperwork in order.  It was a breeze to collect him from Continental's special depot.  

Chauncey received a clean bill of health from my local vet (who was impressed)  and, chow puppies being what they are, he made quite a good impression on the whole medical, grooming and boarding staff as well. As I write this testimonial for John and Imperial Chows, Chauncey is 14 weeks old and well over 20 pounds.  He is lively, intelligent, loving and an absolute joy to have around. He is housebroken and readily obeys basic commands.  We are making every effort to properly socialize him, including daily trips to my daughter's bus stop and pick ups from marching band rehearsal where the kids handle and adore him.  I also bring him frequently to Colonial Williamsburg where guests, school groups and other dog owners eagerly gather to see, pet and hold him.  Groups of young girls literally squeal with delight when they see him and treat him like a rock star.  He responds admirably to all this attention, wagging and licking with absolutely no sign of aggression.

We are looking forward to many wonderful years of proud and delightful custody of our Imperial Chow and recommend John and Imperial Chows to anyone searching for a splendid puppy.

Dear John,

I wanted to write this letter thanking you for my wonderful puppies! They are the 2
greatest joys in my life. I still can't believe that I took on 2 puppies, but it was worth it. The are
a great pair and inseparable.

I also wanted to thank you for being so nice and patient with me. I know that I have called
you many times, all hours of the day, for countless reasons and you were always there on the
other end of my phone to give me answers.

One of the best things that you did for me is that you called me as they were being born!
That by far was the one greatest moments in my life. I felt like I was there with you and
them. The pictures, emails, and phone calls were just so thoughtful.

Coming to pick up the puppies and traveling from Pennsylvania to Georgia was such an
experience. Your hospitality was fabulous and getting to meet my puppies parents was such a
bonus. Also the trip to PetSmart was perfect since I needed help on what size of crate to buy, what
toys to have, and what kind of food to get.

I don't think that I could ever thank you enough for all of your information, dedication, and
honesty. You have made me confident, happy and feeling complete.

I plan to keep in close contact with you to see what progress you are gong to make in the
coming years.

I will continue to let you know how they are doing, and send pictures of their progress.

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful puppy we purchased from you in November. She not only is loving to our family but has adopted all of our neighbors and most especially the children. She actually seeks them out looking to get her kid fix!  It is evident from her temperament that your breeding methods and  early socialization practices shine through. She has never been afraid of any household noise in fact she thinks the canister vacuum is one of her toys.
After a disaster with a bad breeder, a 10 week old puppy with a nasty attitude and then one with hips that would not even stay in place. I ended up spending more on one puppy by the time you add in travel expenses and vet bills than I would have if I had just purchased one from you from the start. It wasn't until after the fact that we found your web site that we contacted you.
I would not hesitate to give you a reference or for you to give a potential buy my number, I'll be more that happy to explain to them the importance of purchasing a puppy from a reputable breeder, been there done that!

Dear John,
I can not express to you how pleased I am and so happy that I made the decision to get my puppy from you! She is an absolute angel! We named her Tootsie - finally - it took me 3 days to choose her name! I wanted something more regal, but Tootsie fits her! I have never had a puppy that is so easy to potty train (she hasn't had an accident yet!). She is so sweet with the kids and has so much personality! I am totally in love! Thank you so much!

              Thanks for the super puppies! I think Cash was the bigger puppy but Jackson has caught up and they are both as large as my former big chow, 65 lbs.  They are the calmest most loving Chows I have ever had.  They know no strangers and are just great.  My Vet even brags about the quality of the breeding. I am so happy I got my puppies from you!  I want you to know they are in great health, and probably receive better health care than me!

Dear John,

Thank you so much for our new baby ! We wanted to let you know how much we appreciate the time and attention it is obvious you put into your dogs.  Our little Loki is everything we could have asked for!  Our vet says he is the most outgoing and affectionate chow he has ever seen. He is the perfect companion for us! He has already learned to sit, stay, lay down and fetch and we've had him less than a month now.  He is so smart and so loving and of course cute!  It is apparent that you spent a lot of time socializing him, getting him used to people and grooming him.  He loves to be brushed and even sits in my lap (though he will get to big for that soon at the rate he is growing).
